Content Reviews

As Co-Managing Mosaic Editor at the The Review (the University of Delaware's only student-run, independent newspaper), one of my job responsibilities is to regularly contribute content to the Mosaic section. One aspect of running a successful newspaper print and website is to publish content that is not only engaging, but relevant. To ensure that the Mosaic section is constantly attracting new and old readers, I both encourage my Staff Writers to and personally write reviews on the latest releases in pop-culture, such as new movies, albums, and books.

Personal Essays

I often myself writing not only for myself and to process my thoughts, but also to connect with others. Although I am a lover of fiction, I think giving people pieces to read that are grounded in reality and my personal life experiences is important because someone is bound to relate. I will admit that writing about topics such as feeling "not Hispanic enough" or the pressures of being a first generation college student were daunting at first, but the support I received on such pieces by readers and fellow writers alike gave me the confidence to share my work.

When The Review's Mosaic (creative writing) section needed a more diverse range of content, I thought that writing poetry would be an easy, non time-consuming way of getting something different up on our website. However, the days of poetry writing being a quick task for me are long gone. Ever since I started to write poetry and learn more about the medium in earnest, it's become something I turn to when I am greatly inspired by my surroundings and experiences. If a line or stanza strikes me in the middle of the day (or night), I have to write it down!
